EpiHack™ Albania consisted of two complementary workshops in April 2016. The first focused on developing a One Health dashboard that incorporated multiple data streams from human and animal health surveillance systems. The second was a time-to-detection workshop that developed a proposal for analyzing outbreak timeliness measures in the countries of the SECID network in Southeast Europe. The two-part event convened 40 epidemiologists, information technology specialists, and developers from Albania and countries of Southeast Europe.
Epihack™ Albania laid the groundwork for a project that is currently being launched with the SECID network in Southeast Europe. Seven countries will collaborate to measure timeliness of outbreak reporting and response by conducting a retrospective study of outbreak data for priority diseases in the region. As the data is collected, paper records will be scanned and digitized for future use and a platform will be developed to track these key metrics prospectively.
