EpiHack™ Vietnam focused on a theme of “population participation in disease surveillance” and featured over 70 participants. Focus areas for prototyping included data visualization tools, a public reporting hotline for reporting suspected outbreaks, and tools for screening social media for rumors of outbreaks.
Prototypes were developed around the major focus areas, including an interactive voice response (IVR) hotline for public reporting of disease outbreaks, building on the 115 Hotline project in neighboring Cambodia. This hotline has the capacity to share dynamic health information with the public, receive reports of suspected outbreaks, and act as a mechanism for public health workers to report data to district or central offices.
