In April 2013, the Second International Workshop on Participatory Surveillance (IWOPS II) was held in Amsterdam and convened more than 70 individuals from 16 countries, including many of the same participants from IWOPS I, as well as new participants from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and others working on digital disease surveillance.
IWOPS II considered the problem of sharing survey data among Influenzanet (Europe), Flu Near You (United States), and FluTracking (Australia). The workshop sought to involve individuals working in electronic surveillance of infectious diseases, such as self-reporting symptoms, information exchanges, and surveillance surveys.

An agreement was reached on the concept for a common application programming interface (API) to expose data collected by Influenzanet, Flu Near You, FluTracking, and similar systems that may be launched elsewhere in future.
